𤯠WOW! A stranger photographed your house from 1,500 feet, and your insurance company bought the pictures. Homeowners are losing renewal over moss, tarps and yard clutter spotted from the air, sometimes from months-old photos that showed problems since fixed. One imagery network claims coverage of about 99% of the U.S. population.
đ Read time: 2 minutes
A stranger took pictures of your house last month. From about 1,500 feet up. Your insurance company bought them.
Thatâs not a hypothetical. Across the country, homeowners are opening nonrenewal letters triggered by aerial photos, no claim filed, no inspector at the door.Â
The Wall Street Journal documented people dropped because of moss on the shingles, a tarp, âroof damageâ that had been repaired by the time the letter arrived. The photo was old. The cancellation wasnât.
đ¸ The whole neighborhood is on camera
Specialty imaging companies fly fixed-wing planes and run satellites over American neighborhoods on a schedule. An insurer-backed imagery network claims its archive covers about 99% of the U.S. population. (Everyone says âdrones.â Itâs mostly planes. The photos are just as sharp.)
Insurers feed those images into underwriting. And with home nonrenewals climbing sharply in recent years while premiums soar, the camera has become the cheapest inspector theyâve ever hired.Â
It never knocks. It never asks. It occasionally photographs the wrong roof.
đŠ What gets you flagged from above
Moss and dark streaks on shingles. A tarp, even over finished repairs. Piles of yard debris. Dead or overhanging trees. The trampoline. An unfenced pool.Â
Basically curb appeal, from an angle you never considered.
đĄď¸ Fight the eye in the sky.
Demand the photo. If a letter cites a property condition, ask for the image and the date it was taken. Stale photos and wrong-address mix-ups are real. You canât fight what you havenât seen.
Appeal with receipts. A rooferâs letter, invoices and your own dated photos beat their flyover. Homeowners have gotten reinstated this way. Stay polite, stay in writing.
Do the free weekend fixes. Tarp down, debris hauled, moss treated ($40 for a two-pack spray), branches trimmed. An hour of yard work, seen from 1,500 feet, reads as âwell-maintained home.â
If they cancel you anyway: Most states require advance notice of nonrenewal, and a few push insurers to give you a chance to fix the problem first. Call an independent agent to shop multiple carriers, and ask about your stateâs Fair Access to Insurance Requirements (FAIR) plan as the last resort, not the first stop.
Your homeownerâs policy is probably your biggest safety net. Now you know it comes with a photographer. And people say nobody drops by unannounced anymore.
Has this ever happened to you? Let me know here.

Here is what I tell everyone about GLP-1
You canât go a day without hearing about GLP-1. Ozempic. Wegovy. Weight loss is everywhere, and so are the questions in my inbox asking what I recommend.
Hereâs my answer. I donât chase trends. I do my homework.
I wanted the support without the needles, the prescription or the $1,000-a-month price tag. So my team and I created ImproveLife GLP-1 Support.

đ Carpool becomes evidence: Your morning commute may introduce you to police before anyone learns your name. Leonardoâs SignalTrace is marketed to work with license plate readers, linking recurring signals from phones, smartwatches and tags to vehicles and locations. If one signal later appears near a car in an investigation, that routine becomes a clue. The system canât explain whether you were commuting, protesting or simply left your phone behind, but itâll still point investigators at you first.
Gates of wrath: I saw Phoebe Gatesâ Slack messages, and itâs not looking good. Her startup Phia allegedly dropped affiliate cookies in the background, stealing credit for sales other people drove, which is landing her in hot legal waters. Gates had vowed the company would succeed without her billionaire last name. After Bloomberg raised questions, revenue fell from about $80,000 a day to $10,000â$28,000, while the company blamed technical anomalies. Funny how quickly independence needs a crisis PR team.
đ AI will not replace you: But someone who understands it will. Donât get left behind. For the first time ever, you can try NetSuite Next for free. If your revenue is at least in the seven figures, get your trial here.*
𫥠Her voice returns: So they want a computer to make a dead woman speak while jurors consider executing her murderer. A guy in Utah faces another sentencing in February 2027 for abducting and murdering a woman in 1985 before she could testify against him in a rape trial. Prosecutors built an AI version of her voice to read her sworn testimony. The problem? Tone and cadence were never recorded, so the machine must invent them. That feels less like evidence talking.Â
𩺠Years become hours: Picture a parent leaving another specialist with another bill and still no name for their childâs illness. Researchers say a specialized clinical AI can analyze genomic data, symptom patterns and medical histories at the same time, shrinking a diagnosis that often takes more than five years to less than a day. Thatâs fewer dead ends, less debt and a real chance to start the right treatment sooner. Finally, a medical shortcut that doesnât involve googling symptoms at 2 a.m.

Trees donât care about your schedule. Storms drop branches, shrubs get out of hand and hauling out a full-size chainsaw feels like overkill.
Thatâs where Seesiiâs mini chainsaw comes in. Itâs cordless, one-handed and the 6-inch bar cuts through branches, limbs and small logs without the bulk. You get two batteries in the box. When one runs low, swap it out and keep going. No gas, no cords, no stress.Â
Light enough that your arms wonât be sore after a few minutes. Youâll make real cuts in no time with something that fits in your tote bag. The yard wins. So do you.
Plus, itâs a great starter saw for anyone who doesnât want to wrestle with big tools. Right now, youâll save 32%.

âĄď¸ 3-second tech genius: Airport Wi-Fi has terrible timing. Before you leave, screenshot your boarding pass, hotel address, booking number, gate info and rental car details. On iPhone, press Side Button + Volume Up. On Android, use Power Button + Volume Down. If an app logs you out or signal disappears, everything important is still sitting in Photos. đ
đą Do this before another Zoom call: Thereâs a security flaw going around that could let someone take over your computer or phone during screen sharing. You wouldnât need to click anything, and thereâd be no warning. The fix is out, though. On desktop, click your profile picture > Check for Updates. On mobile, update Zoom through the app store.
đş Clean up the Netflix graveyard: That Continue Watching row can fill up with shows you bailed on after one episode. On your TV, open the row, click the title, scroll down and select Remove from Continue Watching. Bonus: Type âNetflixâ into search to pull up Netflix Originals and live events. No judgment on the late-night documentary phase.
â Your watch can unlock your Mac: If typing your password every time sucks, let your Apple Watch handle it. On your Mac, go to System Settings > Touch ID & Password, scroll down and toggle on your watch. FYI, both devices need 2FA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on. Psst, strap looking a little gross? Hereâs a 10-pack for only $10. Colors for every outfit.
đ Ditch the printer-scanner: Stop photographing paperwork like it's a crime scene. Your phone has a real scanner built in. On iPhone, open Notes, start a note, tap the paperclip > Scan Documents. On Android, open the Google Drive app and tap + > Scan. It straightens the page, kills the shadows and saves a clean PDF. Roofer invoices and insurance letters, hint hint. After today's issue, you know exactly why you want those on file. đ

đď¸ Suite dreams are made of seas
For $450 million, you can buy a private island in the Maldives with one unusual amenity: no island.
The Adaptive Atoll would fill a 155-acre Maldives lagoon with 10 solar-powered âMother-Shipâ fortresses and 30-plus modular suites that glide along underwater rails and dock wherever their occupants feel like sleeping.
This LEGO billionaire bunker meets floating hotel is designed to rise with the ocean instead of eventually becoming snorkeling infrastructure. As youâd expect, still just renderings until checks come in.Â
Check it out. When is an island not an island? When itâs nothing atoll.

â˛ď¸ The answer: D) 47 seconds. Weâve basically trained ourselves into goldfish with paychecks. And every switch carries âattention residue,â the mental leftovers of the last screen contaminating the next one.
